WordPress maintenance packages

Why install updates?

Open-source website systems like WordPress are constantly evolving. New functions are added and existing ones improved. In addition, should errors/bugs or security improvements be found, they are fixed. This keeps everything working according to the latest standards, which in turn helps online marketing (and Google rankings), among other things.

Updating is necessary. Hosting systems also evolve and security updates take place on every platform. For websites, developments are very fast, so updates are more frequent than, say, Windows.

Advantages of continuous development

Previously, a website was often developed and then the development stopped. This only to start another project 2-5 years later and go through a 'redesign'. This new site, another big investment was again written off in a few years and then this process repeated itself.

By continuously keeping all systems up-to-date, the website receives all new techniques and features. This keeps the system up to date, making it unnecessary to 'build' a new website. The current content can also be continuously updated, partly thanks to the CMS.

Continuous development of a website actually saves costs in the long run (no major redesign needed) and any time in the future, the visitor gets to see a modern, relevant website.

What updates are there:

Section

Frequency

WordPress

On average 1-3x per month

Theme

Varies by theme: once a week to once a quarter

Plug-ins

Varies per plug-in: once a month to once a year (this applies to every plug-in installed, so there are weekly or even daily new updates.

When to update

Updates are available almost every time you log in. Immediate installation is usually not necessary. For most customers, Trender updates all components once or twice a month. There are a few exceptions to this:

  • With security updates, updates are installed as soon as possible. Usually this is the same day. In addition, systems are installed to close this immediately (as soon as known).
  • With very large updates, sometimes people actually wait. For example, the switch from WordPress 5 to 6 is comparable to Windows 10 to Windows 11. By waiting with this, other users are the first to discover bugs or combinations with other plug-ins that cause problems. This is then fixed, hence the many small updates that often follow a very large update.

Check

Two checks should be performed after updating:

  • Site Health: A tool from WordPress itself that indicates whether the site is working well. Trender ensures a maximum score here.
  • Using website: We click through the website to check that the layout is still the same and that the features are working properly.

Options updates outsourcing:
